Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They are coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and event volunteers. They can also be unified partners playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities or fans cheering in the stands.

Rewarding for All

If you want to contribute to your community and make a meaningful difference, volunteering with SOAZ is a great place to start. SOAZ provides numerous volunteer opportunities in Tucson for both seasoned and new volunteers, presenting various ways to influence both athletes and the broader community. Engaging with the SOAZ team, fellow volunteers, and our extraordinary athletes during events brings a sense of achievement and happiness to all involved. Whether you can spare just an afternoon or are looking to embark on a long-term commitment, every volunteer is crucial in developing our athletes’ potential and helping them achieve excellence.

Our volunteer group spans various age groups, from young children to adults and seniors, all passionately committed to the success of our events. We love to see our events filled with volunteers, from children as young as 7 years old to adults and seniors of all ages. Children younger than 7 can still join in on the fun by cheering alongside their parents and siblings and bringing a little extra energy to our events. Each volunteer provides a unique value to the Special Olympics Arizona: with their steadfast energy and enthusiasm, our volunteers serve as pillars of support, aiding our athletes in reaching their champion potential. The significant impact SOAZ makes today could not happen without the dedicated efforts of our volunteers. We are deeply grateful to the Tucson community members who dedicate their time and energy to elevate our athletes and contribute to our impactful events. Every act of volunteering, no matter the size, contributes to building the caring and inclusive community we cherish.

Spirit of Giving

At the heart of our mission is a steadfast dedication to transforming lives, a commitment deeply shared by not only our athletes and staff but also by our volunteers, who embody the spirit of teamwork and empathy. Every volunteer contributes to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging within the Tucson community, significantly enhancing the experiences of all our athletes. Through their acts of compassion, kindness, and selflessness, our volunteers foster a supportive and connected community. Their unwavering commitment to service profoundly impacts each event and every athlete they assist. As beacons of hope and motivation, our volunteers help us promote an atmosphere of inclusivity and compassion across our community.

At Special Olympics Arizona, excitement is constant! With activities ranging from training sessions to competitions and numerous other events, we offer daily opportunities for involvement.
