Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They are coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and event volunteers. They can also be unified partners playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities or fans cheering in the stands.

Rewarding for All

If you’re looking to get involved with Special Olympics Arizona, there are countless volunteer opportunities in Scottsdale that can be rewarding for everyone involved. Volunteer opportunities range in time commitment, with some lasting for only an afternoon and others becoming a lifelong opportunity. Every volunteer plays a special part in making champions out of every SOAZ athlete.

We have volunteers across all ages, from children as young as 7 to adults and seniors. Every volunteer puts their heart and soul into supporting Special Olympics Arizona events and athletes, and without their time, dedication, energy, and enthusiasm, SOAZ would not be the organization it is today! We are so grateful to the members of the Scottsdale community who show up for our events and give their time to cheering on and supporting our athletes. Every volunteer makes the world a better place with just a small amount of their time.

Spirit of Giving

Special Olympics Arizona is dedicated to transforming lives, from the athletes to the team at SOAZ and, of course, our volunteers. The spirit of teamwork runs deep in each and every member of our volunteer community. They are committed to making the Scottsdale community, their neighborhood, a more welcoming place for people of all abilities. The spirit of giving is something that our volunteers are dedicated to cultivating. They embody kindness, compassion, and selflessness, touching the lives of others in profound ways every time they show up to a Special Olympics Arizona event.

At SOAZ, we create lifelong friendships. Building connections among the community helps everyone involved find new ways of thinking about and interacting with others.

We are so grateful for the local Scottsdale coaches who work with our athletes, encouraging them to do their best and cheering them on throughout every event; the photographers who work tirelessly at each and every event to capture photos of our athletes in action; and, of course, our volunteers that make it all possible. Everyone involved with Special Olympics Arizona is what makes this community and all of our events so successful. Without you, we would not be able to do what we do!

We always have something interesting going on at SOAZ: from training to sports competitions and countless other events, there are events to get involved with 365 days a year!

All Ages, All Interests

We are so excited about the growth we’ve seen in our teen volunteer community! People of all ages have something to give to our events, and we love to see young people coming out and bringing their energy and excitement to SOAZ events! Teens and young adults have the opportunity to volunteer independently or through a school-based group. Check with your school if you have an opportunity to volunteer in Scottsdale with your school peers, or you can get involved on your own.

Whatever way you end up volunteering with Special Olympics Arizona, we know that the enthusiasm, dedication, and creativity of a group of young volunteers are hard to beat!
